Ann Bunnell’s maternal & paternal ancestors were settlers in Qld in the middle 1800’s arriving through the ports of Moreton Bay Colony (Brisbane) and Rockhampton, settling in the Kilkivan and Allora communities.

Ann’s early nursing career ensured a life-long commitment to health issues. Her early introduction to the Landcare movement was the genesis of her ongoing development of sustainable models, leading government work at a local, state and national levels.

Ann was elected to Townsville City Council in March 1988. Then was appointed deputy mayor in 1989, which she held continuously untill her resignation in April 2007 and has held many positions on boards & committees in Queensland & Australia.

This background in health, sustainability & government formed the basis for her overseas presentations in the Philippines, Japan, Korea and Mexico.

She has experience at executive level in local government and corporate governance, strategic planning, developing creative and sustainable solutions, stakeholder management and advocacy.

Ann also worked in the private sector as a company director.

As Deputy Mayor Ann chaired many statutory committees (including urban planning, audit & risk management, sustainable development, health & environmental services, healthy cities and beach management). She was involved with Professor Ray Golding of James Cook University to bring Townsville City Council’s strong financial support to the start-up of the Australian Festival of Chamber Music which is now one of Australia’s leading classical annual event celebrating 25 yrs of success.

Ann initiated & harnessed support for sustainable outcomes in the areas of eco-tourism, natural resource management, health planning promotions & community building.

She has been an advocate for women’s issues, the environment, disability & indigenous groups.

Ann has presented at numerous international conferences & orchestrated forums (including engaging renowned international speakers).

Ann was appointed Commission member of the Queensland Local Government Grants Commission in March from 2016 to 2019.
